One more for good measure. Stella was found yesterday abandoned in a park, tied to a fence. Previous owner left her with a cardboard box containing food, puppy liners, and dog shampoo. Super sad, but happy to have her with us now.
In Praise of Five Cigarettes a Day - The Awl
why not accord the temperate smoker the same respect we bestow on the moderate drinker?
Spoon - Back to the Life
Spoon at the Moore: amazing. We upgraded our seats to the open ones 15 rows ahead of us and had an amazing view of the girls who bought balcony seats but needed to dance anyway. Realized how awesome Spoon older stuff is and kicked myself for not giving it my ear before.
BUT there are too many awesome unfinished ideas like this song on every album of theirs I’ve listened to. Too many times where I’ve cursed myself for having a shitty rip of their album, only to discover that no, the song does indeed end abruptly like that. What the fuck is so hard about writing outros? Two minutes a song does not make.
Record Club: INXS “Need You Tonight” (by Beck Hansen)
Too often, I’ve forgotten that Beck is busy, even though I don’t see him putting an album together or touring. The Record Club efforts are exactly what I want more of in music: awesome artists coming together and having fun,
and then sharing that with me.
Built for the Sea - Dreamer
I know I’ve been pushing alot of BFTS tracks here, so this will be the last (honest). Filing this one under:
‘songs that I’ll put on my kid’s iPod Shuffle so they can sleep soundly and gain an appreciation for good music at the same time’
beautiful song.
“close your eyes if you would, i will watch as you dream. i will wait for the dawn to close my eyes… if you are lost i will help you find your way back home…when you are afraid i will hold you in my arms until you’re safe…are you safe now…are safe now…”
Reblogging myself via natala because Built for the Sea’s lead singer, Lia Rose, has a kickstarter project for her solo album. Support good music!
Lykke Li and Bon Iver - Dance Dance Dance
Give Bon Iver a lady-friend and suddenly they don’t sound like such sad bastards. Funny, that.
Spoon, last night at the Moore.
and they’re playing again tonight, when I’ll be seeing them!
Self - See If You Swim
I’m gonna throw you in the ocean,
throw you in the ocean,
throw you in the ocean,
and see if you swim.
Still don’t get why Self has never been (very) popular.
Shabazz Palaces - Find Out
Find out what you love and need it
Find out who you are and see it
George Harrison - I’d Have You Anytime
All I have is yours
All you see is mine
And I’m glad to hold you in my arms
I’d have you anytime
“OMG, it’s your new facebook photo!!!,” she laughed. Not entirely convinced, but hell, she’s the photographer, what do I know.
…which reminds me: the reason I’ve been particularly absent from Tumblr for the last month or so, is the above. my grandpa gave me his beloved bus, and I’ve been spending the better part of my free time fixing her up for this trip. (via my flickr)
